I realise that I have written at length about the sportives in which I have taken part, this time however I want to provide some insight into some of the routes I have cycled throughout this year.
If you are anything like me, the thoughts of Blackpool summon kiss me quick hats, Blackpool rock and a hotspot for stag and hen do’s, while combining the unmistakeable strong smell of fish and chips on Blackpool front with the backdrop of the iconic Blackpool tower. Blackpool, you either loathe it or love it and I very much doubt that there is an in between.
Roughly 13 miles North East of Blackpool is the Fylde district that hosts long flat roads to put down the power and ride at speed while passing coastlines, far reaching fields and farmlands and following the Wyre estuary. It is equally enjoyable snaking round the winding roads that pass through several small villages including Pilling, Nateby and Churchtown. I always search for those quiet roads and the sense of feeling miles away from my every day working life and this place does not disappoint!
If you are searching for more challenging routes, Trough of Bowland, again North West of the Wyre district is roughly 17 miles, hosting challenging climbs and scenic views to test your stamina and skills. Dunsop Bridge, the gateway to Trough of Bowland is considered to be the centre of Great Britain, a small picturesque village where the river Dunsop meets River Hodder. Opposite the river is a lovely café aptly named ‘Puddle Ducks’ , due to the many ducks that spend time in the village centre while some of them can be seen venturing round the café.
Although the focal point resides with Blackpool centre it is well worth spending time cycling through the small villages dotted around and enjoy local ice-cream. My experiences have broadened my knowledge of Blackpool and realised that there is more to this part of England than it’s famous landmarks and the partying people that arrive there each year.
In Pursuit
